Clock out calculator

Tell it when you clocked in and how long you need to work. It tells you the time you can clock out.

Work forward from your start time

Most time tools take two clock times and give you hours. This one runs the other way. You know when you started and how long the shift is, and you want the finishing time. Enter the start, the shift length in hours and minutes, and the unpaid break in minutes.

The clock-out time is the start plus the shift length plus the break, because an unpaid break stretches the day without adding paid time. A break of 30 minutes on an eight hour shift means you leave 8 hours 30 minutes after you arrived.

A second line answers the question people ask halfway through the day: what if lunch runs longer? It shows the clock-out time again with a longer break, so you can see exactly how much later you will finish.

The tool works past midnight. A night shift that starts at 10:30 PM and finishes the next morning is shown with the next day marked, so you do not have to count across the date change yourself.

Questions about this calculator

Should the break count in the shift length?

No. Enter the paid working time as the shift length and the unpaid break separately. The page adds the two.

What if my break is paid?

Set the break to zero. A paid break is part of the shift length, so it does not push your finish time later.

Can I enter a shift of 7 hours 45 minutes?

Yes. There are separate boxes for hours and minutes.

How do I find the finish time if I do not know my shift length?

Work it out from your target total, for example 37.5 hours over five days is 7 hours 30 minutes a day. Then enter that.
