Eight minutes: two halves of a short job
Eight minutes is two blocks of four, which makes it a natural length for a job with two clear parts: read for four, then write for four, or tidy the kitchen and then the hallway. It is also about right for a short debate round in a classroom.
The timer works from the device clock. That means switching to another app and back does not cause drift, and the "Ends at" line stays correct. When the bell rings the line changes to "Rang at" so you can see how long you were away.
Use Space to start or pause and R to reset. Press F to fill the screen for people across the room. Pick the sound that suits the space and use Copy link to bring it along, for instance to a shared meeting-room computer.
For learners, eight minutes works for a short timed reading with a few questions afterwards. Read for the whole eight and then answer from memory, or split the time into a read and a reply. The bell takes the decision about when to stop out of your hands.
Questions about this timer
How many seconds is eight minutes?
480 seconds.
Can I split it into two phases?
The timer rings once at the end. For two phases with a tone in the middle, use the interval timer with two rounds.
Is the full screen view good for a classroom?
Yes. The digits fill the screen, but the classroom timer has extras such as a silent mode and end message.
